Wedding Blues

I wonder if any other Bridezilla hits the first wedding blues. Well mine happened yesterday when I went wedding dress shopping. As I mentioned on the blog, there is a Vera Wang sample sale at Selfridges.

I had an argument with my fiance as he didnt want me to buy a dress there. He said that I would only be looking at the label and that I wouldnt be thinking logically. He insisted that I take with me a ‘sensible’ person as it I wasnt sensible enough!!! So I had to call my future sister in law and my boyfriend gave me the pin number on the condition that she approves the dress. I admit I have a habit of changing my mind about dresses. I am due to return a dress to TopShop which i thought was fabulous in store but look horrid now that I’ve worn it at home. Im not sure if its the lighting or mirror that makes items look better in stores.

Anyways, the dress I really wanted to try on was not available. I think it was sold earlier. This is the one I have been gushing about:

The saleswoman said that at 9.30 yesterday, there was a queue of 50 women! I cant imagine it because most of the dresses had huge reductions. However, they were still too expensive for me :(

I tried on a couple but the one that fit me the best was this one:

It doesnt look very nice on the model but it was beautiful and exquisite. It hugged my body really well and really enhanced the curves. However, I felt heartbroken to hear it was reduced from £8,000 to £4,800. I cant justify spending that much on a dress. My future sister in law said that it suited me very well but she wasnt too fond of the flower designs at the bottom (which were probably handmade and made the dress cost so much)

So I am completely heartbroken because I cant have what I really really want. I wish I won a lottery but then I wouldnt feel right about spending this much on a dress either.

My fiance is trying to convince me to have one made by a dress maker. He says I can have them make a design of my choice and it would fit my body perfectly as its bespoke. But i’m worried that it will not be made to the high standards and that it will be too much of an effort to find the materials, tailor etc. Also, I think men dont realise how expensive these dresses are. One of my friend said her husband and her set out to make a wedding budget and he suggested 200 pounds for her dress. 200 pounds! I dont even think the wedding dress material cost that little! I think men think that its just an ordinary dress and so they cant understand why it can be so expensive. For me, I think its that one dress you wear and it will be in all the photos. I dont want to scrimp and save on this one and I can always sell it again.

I actually felt very tempted to tell another customer that if she bought the dress I liked, I would rent it off her. But she said ‘Honey, its not worth it’. I’ll have to tell myself that over and over again till I get over these blues…
