Fiance to Wife and Bridezilla on the way!

Today, I went with my fiance to Selfridges to try on the dress that I’ve been dreaming about but couldnt find on the sample sale stack. I called them and described the dress. The salewoman even looked at the Vera Wang website with me and said that it was a called informally ‘Three Roses dress’ because of the three roses that are gathered at the back. Anyways, they arranged to have the dress bought out for me as it was not on the sample sale. There is a 10% discount but it still costs around £2,000.

So I went in today to try it on and it was beautiful. I think I’ll put in cups to boost the bust. I’ve heard other brides do this. I also tried on the mermaid style dress which is twice as expensive. My fiance thought that the first one was just average looking but the second one actually looked like a wedding dress. I think he imagines a wedding dress as one with all the frilly and puffy bits. A TV show called this the ‘Cinderalla complex’ where brides want to try on the biggest dress in the store because they believe that is what a wedding dress embodies.

Dress 1:

vs. Dress 2:

When I went to change my dress, my fiance started talking to an older gentleman who was sitting beside him. When I came out, my fiance said that the older gentleman preferred the first dress to the second and said it looked more elegant. It was very sweet of him to say that. My fiance said he may have a point as the gentleman had gone through three daughter’s weddings.

He told me to try on as many dresses as possible and to look for wedding boutiques outside London. The sweetest thing he said was that I should not look at the price, the dress should feel like the one. I do feel like the mermaid dress is the one for me but I feel that alterations to make it shorter for me would change how it looks completely. On the other hand, the first dress fits my body perfectly, is more practical to wear and is so elegant and simple. Decisions, decisions!

Oh, the funniest thing is my fiance’s sister told me her friend who just had a wedding a few months ago, wants to come wedding dress shopping with me and that she still wears her wedding dress around the house!
