Gift List Options
Last week, I mentioned that my fiance and I will be asking for money as a wedding present. I know some people dont like to give money at weddings because they think its rude and they would prefer to know where the money is going towards.
Generally, gift lists come under three options: charity gift lists, online wedding lists which bundle gifts from different shops, and specific store gift lists.
For those brides and grooms who have everything and anything, giving money to charity is such an honourable and lovely idea. If I were a millionaire, I would definately pursue this option.
Online Wedding gift lists which bundle gifts from different stores are so helpful so that you can mix and match and get the best deals.
Specific store gift lists are helpful if you buy all your items from a particular store. It helps if it is a big department store like John Lewis. Also, the additional benefit comes from a store bonus. For example, Debenhams offers an extra £50 gift card if you register your gift list with them. However, from my experience, they do not just hand you over the £50 gift card upon registration. They will give it to you after your gift list has been compiled and items have been brought. So much for researching freebies. hehe. I know lots of other stores offer bonuses, the other one I heard about is through Habitat. My fiance and I love their furniture and if we had not lived together before or if we were moving to a new house, then getting our gift list there would definately help. Habitat is offer 10% extra on all the money your guests have collected. Quite a good deal eh?
On the other hand, simply asking for money, although it may seem extremely rude and thoughtless, is probably the most useful gift you will get. You can pay off wedding excesses and buy items you really need. My fiance and I have a lovely friend who gives us gift cards but we always find trouble buying things with the gift card because it ties us to a certain shop. For example, you can always find cheaper books on amazon than if you had a Waterstones gift card. Well, its the thought that counts right?
Finally, if you do get a gift of money for your wedding, dont forget to mention what you spent it on when you write your thank you cards. See it doesnt have to be so thoughtless…
