The Long and Short of it
I’ve been looking at wedding veils ever since my accessories appointment at Pronovias. I was pleasantly suprised by how much they actually cost – well atleast in comparison to the Carolina Castiligiano viel which was a whopping £1,000. My cousin, the designer, calmly said I should just buy it but I think its only because he’s a billionaire compared to me and he actually values the handiwork. Me, I just want something nice and not too expensive as I’ll only be wearing it for walking down the aisle and for photos.
So I’ve found this chart which will help you make sense of what length of veil you’re looking for:
I’ve been watching lots of videos on veil advice on YouTube and I hear one expert claim that shorter veils also make petite or short brides look fatter and their hips widen…waaahHH!! Also, I love the grandeur of a bride walking in with a long veil… just not too long or else she’d trip.
I saw some beautiful photos of brides running with the veil flying in the wind. I think it would almost impossible to replicate this on the day but maybe I can get someone to turn on a fan later?
I also learnt that in Spain, because of the Catholic culture, they have beautiful modest dresses. One blogger gushed over how Pronovias is her favourite bridal designer. It is mine too!
Here are some photos of me with my veils at Pronovias. Any thoughts whether I should pick the long or short one and whether I should pick the long lace one or plain short one? Unfortunately, I forgot to ask the sales assistant for the names of the two veils. She told me that the long lace one costs around £160 and the short veil costs £120. At first glance, I thought this was a bargain because the only other veil I had seen was about £1000 but now I think I should go look for a veil that is about £50. Thats the thing about weddings – the budget can get out of hand unless you set yourself standards. I realise that £50 can buy me a dress on the high street so I should really not really spend more than £100 for my veil, not matter how ridiculously expensive other people’s veils cost. But then again, i got a bargain for my dress so maybe I can afford to splurge a teeny weeny bit?
I’ve only been to one wedding where the bride wore a veil, I guess more and more people see this as an unnecessary expense. On the other hand, it really adds to the ceremony and I think the photos will be ravishing with the veil.
