I’ve been given the e-book  ”Buy the Perfect Ring” to review. Conveniently, the website also matches the e-book - or maybe they named the book after buying the domain name?

Anyways, the book covers quite a lot about how to buy an engagement ring - although it deals exclusively with dealing with Diamond Engagement rings. It was quoted that 73% of people buy the solitaire (round brilliant cut) diamond ring as an engagement ring. I purposely chose a princess cut (square diamond) with pave settings (diamonds on the sides) because I didnt want to be the same as everyone else. What I didnt realise is all the different types of settings like the tension setting. The ebook had pictures to go with all the settings so it was good to have a look. I still think I would have chosen the princess cut pave setting.

There were two really good sections in the ebook - how to test if your ring is a fake and the section on how to avoid the jeweller’s tricks. I’ve spoken to lots of friends who asked me how to make sure the jeweller doesnt switch diamonds or if the certificate is false. This book said that you can ask the jeweller to give the specifications in writing and that way you have a claim if the diamond proves to be wrong. Its such a simple suggestion but till someone tells you, you dont realise how important and useful the tip was! The book has loads of other tricks that jewellers use and solutions to avoid them.

There are also some sections on legal entitlements to the ring if the engagement is broken. I found that fascinating but then again, Im a nerdy law graduate! There are websites where to buy diamond, the countries you can get diamonds cheaper (pros and cons) and also questions to ask jewellers. Lots more, just cant ramble on and ramble.

Overall, this is a great book for a beginner or if you are researching. I think it would have really helped me on the search and for the price of $15, I think you can make substantial savings if you use some of the tips. I’m going to use some of the tips for lowering the insurance costs. But other than that, I still love the ring I chose, even though I’ve seen quite a few more through this ebook. Maybe Im just biased?
