Classical Wedding Music

I’ve been speaking regularly with my harpist for music for the wedding. I’m hiring a harpist for two hours for our wedding (30 minutes when guests arrive; 30 minutes during the ceremony; then an hours break and an hour’s music for the meal) She first suggested some light classical for the guests arrival – e.g. Debussy’s Premiere Arabesque, Rachmaninov’s Eighteenth Variation (from Somewhere in Time), Delibes’ Flower Duet, Paradisi’s Toccata, Massenet’s Theme from Thais etc.

For the ceremony, I made a special request for the Trumpet Voluntary song. My brother had trumpet lessons and I am hoping he will be able to play with the harpist. That would make the ceremony so much more special and meaningful.

For our exit, she thinks only one piece is needed. She suggested Pachelbel’s Canon in D but I thought that Mendelsoh’s Bridal March was much nicer. Another suggestion is to play the first section of the first movement of Handel’s Harp Concerto in B Flat Major, which is very bright and lively for the exit.

For our meal, our harpist suggested more modern pieces such as by Andrew Lloyd Weber, Elton John. However, I didnt want the music to be too karoake enticing so I asked for more classical pieces. She has suggested Handel harp concerto in B flat major, Satie Gymnopedies, Bach Air on a G String, Bach-Gonou Ave Maria, Ibert Scherzetto, Faure Scicilienne, Bach Gavotte en Rondeau.

For something more versatile than a harpist then this violin and piano duo might do the trick – everything from Bach to the Beatles (and then some)…
