Celebrities rock out with their rocks

At some point, I know I have to do a post about celebrity engagement rings. Admit it, you too have seen the celebrity rocks and their even bigger personalities to match. Paris Hilton once said she gets a work out from wearing her engagement ring itself!

I like to think of engagement rings like Mr Big in Sex and City – something sweet to seal the deal. Just in the case of celebrities, they can afford to be bigger and brighter.

Starting at the top, Beyonce was given a 18 carat diamond ring by Lorraine Schwartze worth $5 million. Beyonce debuted her diamond ring at the Conde Nast Fashion Rocks event at Radio Music Hall in NYC. She has never admitted she is married to Jay-Z but little sister Solange once gave a shout out to Jay-Z as her brother-in-law.

When Paris (Hilton) met Paris (Latsis) all eyes were on her 24 carat emerald cut ring worth $4.7 million. Paris Hilton was reported to have complained about wearing such a heavy diamond – wouldnt any of us mere mortals just love to have a dilemma like that? So Paris Latsis bought her a diamond less Cartier ring for every day wear.

Mariah Carey gushed over her emerald cut pink cushion cut rock, surrounded by 58 pink diamonds and 2 half moon diamonds on each side, making the ring worth a whopping $2.5 million. However, she was said to be fuming that fans noticed her ring looks strangely familiar to the ring that her fiance, Nick Cannon, had given to his former fiance, Selita Ebank. Hmm… you be the judge of that debate. I guess there are some downsides to being a celebrity after all!

Just to pacify Mariah, I would tell her that atleast her fiance did not downgrade her ring. Ben Affleck presented Jennifer Lopez with a 6.1 carat pink Harry Winston Ring in 2002. The jeweler was said to have ‘reacquired’ the ring when they split up. A few years later, true to his ‘Bennifer’ nickname, Ben presented another Jen with a 4.5 carat Harry Winston ring worth $500,000.

Michael Douglas proposed to Catherine Zeta-Jones with a 10 carat marquise cut Fred Leighton rock worth over $2 million. What makes her ring unique is the fact that it is a marquise setting, with the diamond positione side ways…. which probably looks fine if you can afford a rock that big to go sideways! The designer Fred Leighton also lend her a tiara featuring marquise set diamonds for her wedding so she could look picture perfect.

Commitment-phobe-mean-guy-millionaire Simon Cowell finally admitted her needed a special someone in his life and gave Mezhgan Hussainy a 6 carat ring of perfect clarity and colour reported worth $750,000… and look he is even smiling since meeting her!

Eva Longoria was given a 5 carat emerald cut diamond designed by Jean Dousset with a whopping 248 diamonds on the side and a private message by fiance Tony Parker written in his own handwriting and enscribed in the shank of her ring for her eyes only. Now that is one way to make it special!

Who hasnt seen Victoria Beckham’s 3 carat marquise diamond ring by Asprey & Garrard with baguette diamonds on each side worth $250,000? Only a perfectly manicured hand like Posh Spice could carry that rock.

and finally, the most romantic ring of all, in my humble opinion, belongs to Heidi Klum. Her husband Seal proposed in a bespoke igloo and a 10 carat cushion cut yellow diamond set in gold band of diamonds worth $150,000. I think when the proposal is perfect, the ring is even more special! I’ve just asked my husband if he’s going to buy me a ring like Heidi’s when my first baby is born :P I’ve assured him that I’m not expecting the igloo bit.
