Buntings for a Village feel to your Wedding
I was out shopping at Sloane Square this afternoon – so much more relaxing than the maddening crowds of Oxford Street. I also noticed that some of the well heeled residents of Chelsea are walking models themselves. Anyways, I saw a Peter Jones display with all their wedding items. Arent the heart hangings just delicate and ethereal?

Once inside, I noticed that Peter Jones (which is also known as John Lewis elsewhere in the country) had some buntings you could buy ready made. They are called Spring Fete Buntings and retail for £10.

Here are some other buntings I found on the internet. At first glance, I thought these were definitely from Cath Kidstone, but I think they were just very vintage inspired prints used in the bunting process

These are special buntings with bells on them so they also make a beautiful noise when the wind rustles

For instructions on how to make them yourself:
1 – Gather together the below bits and pieces…
-some patterned cloth
-1 pair of scissors
-a length of ribbon
-some fabric glue or a needle and thread
-optional decorative stuff
2 – Cut around a bunting template of 16cm x 20cm x 20cm (posh name for a triangle).
3 – Place this on your patterned cloth (old curtains are ideal, but please ask curtain owners’ permission first).
4 – Cut around the paper triangle to make your own bunting. Tip : turning the triangle upside down each time will allow you to make even more bunting.
5 – Customise your bunting with fabric pens and decorative stuff should you so wish.
6 – Glue or sew your triangle on to the ribbon.
And why would someone use buntings at all for weddings? Because they provide this intimate village feel and are a great way to decorate a large amount of space. Be a bit more picky about the materials you use so its not all mis matched and turns out looking like any old scrap cloth was used. Here are some gorgeous images of weddings that incorporated bunting.
and an unusual and sweet marriage proposal!

And if you think you wont be able to use the buntings again, think again. You could use them for summer parties, birthdays, or even just decoration around the house:
