Personalise Favour Tins

A neat little favour idea is to have favour tins filled with your favourite sweets – jelly beans are my favourite! I read that almonds (specifically Jordan almonds) are traditional wedding favours for over 3,000 years in Greek, Mediterranean, French and Italian weddings. The almonds came to signify celebrations as ancient Romans used sweets like almonds for weddings and births. The bittersweet almond taste is said to symbolise life itself. The sugar coating symbolises the hope that life will be blessed with more sweetness than bitterness. Interestingly, the favours were meant to contain an odd number of almonds because it symoblised an indivisible marriage. According to Middle Eastern traditions, five almond pieces represent five wedding wishes: health, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity. In the Middle Eastern wedding culture the candy covered almonds are even considered aphrodisiacs!

I’ve seen many wedding favour tins with a mention of the couples names, wedding dates, and a thank you quote.

But how about personalising it even more with photos of the couple as children. I think it would be absolutely adorable!

I think the photos could be a real talking point on the table if you choose a selection from childhood. To make:

1. Make colour photocopies of the specified photos
2. Place the lid over the photocopy and trace around the edge
3. Cut to size
4. Slip the picture into the lid of the tin and glue a length of coloured ribbon round the base of the tin.

Voila! and you have something totally neat and special! For added effect, have a few favoured tins (but expect greedy guests to take them all )
