Chelsea Clinton’s Royal American Wedding
The past weekend saw the world media flocking to Rhinebeck, 90 miles from New York City, to what has been billed as the American royal wedding and the wedding of the century. Former First Daughter, Chelsea Clinton married financier Marc Mezvinsky after a year long engagement at the Astor Court. It has been reported that President Obama offered the white house as a wedding venue.

The Clinton family spent a staggering £3.2 million on the wedding, including a £10,000 on a presidential style mobile toilet and a 20 piece band.
The blushing bride wore a custom Vera Wang creation – strapless, raw edged laser cut swirling silk organza ball skirt with a jewel encrusted waistband and a floor length veil. Vera Wang, herself a wedding guest, also designed the bridesmaid’s lavender chiffon gowns. The guests were said to have been given lavender gift bags with expensive toiletries. The dashing groom wore a Burberry tux. Bill Clinton looked trim in his tux after having been ordered by his daughter to lose over 20 pounds. I was stunned to see Hillary Clinton in a gorgeous fusia Oscar de la Renta. Apparently, even the emergency electricians were asked to wear tuxedos. The dress code for the rehearsal dinner was ‘country chic.’

The 500 strong guest list featured former Secretary of State Madeline Albright (who was suprisingly vibrant for her age it has been reported) and even Whoopi Goldberg.

Marc comes from a political family with a scandal behind them. He met Chelsea in high school and they both attended Standford. Arent these photos of the pair just adorable?

The most touching aspect of the wedding involved Leo Mark’s poem, which was originally written when the poet’s girlfriend passed away. It also featured in the 1958 movie ‘Carve Her Name’:
The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours
The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.
A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours

Wedding consultant Liz Sellasie said “In America we don’t have royals, so these families, the Clintons and the Kennedys… they are our equivalent. Chelsea is our Princess Diana.” Judging from the reports about this wedding, she was every bit the American princess!
