Making your own Wedding Cake
I’m off to a wedding tomorrow (bride and groom chose a lucky Chinese number that happens to fall on monday!) and seeing that it was so sunny and warm today, decided to make some cupcakes. I started to think about all the brides that may make and decorate their own wedding cake.
I think most of the techniques used on a wedding cake can easily apply to cupcakes, all except those utilising the sides of the cake like the string effect (video below) You dont have to watch the entire video because after the first minute you get the hang of the technique (pun intended!)
I really think the string effect could make a wedding cake fancy. But I would warn against using the hideously colourful flowers (I’m sure the failing eye sight is his excuse). I would have left it chocolate with the white string effect.
I thought these videos were pretty cool because it reminded me of Ashlee Simpson’s Alice-in-Wonderland-themed topsy-turvey-wedding-cake. The first shows how to make a scroll like pattern to make it really whimsical.
and the most useful video I found? The one on how to cut a wedding cake. I bet 99% of all brides dont even know how to do it properly – to be honest, I only stumbled on this by mistake but it proved to be the most useful video.

I’m seriously thinking of the Cordon Bleu course in cake making but I cant afford their £25,000 fee and taking one year off work
