and voila!
Other celebrity weddings at the famous New York venue include Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas and Eddie Murphy and Nicole Mitchell. The Plaza Hotel has two special venues for their weddings – the Terrace Room and the Grand Ballroom. It is rated as one of New York’s top wedding venues for his glamourous location at the intersection of Central Park and 5th Avenue. The Terrace room includes Italian Renaissance themed ceilings and original chandeliers made by Charles Winston (brother of the famous jeweler Harry Winston). The chandeliers are copies of the chandeliers at the Palace of Versailes.
The Grand Ballroom:
Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas were married in front of 350 guests at a ceremony and reception that reportedly cost $1.5 million. The Terrace room was raised with a plaform surrounded by grass hills, lady slipper, larkspurs and delphinium flowers. Following the ceremony, guests moved to the Grand Ballroom where a 20 foot magnolia tree was laden with 700 white tulips on branches and ribbons with the guests seating arrangements on magnolia leaf shaped cards (talk about attention to detail wedding planning!) The actors spent their first night as husband and life at the Astor suite at the hotel. The bride wore an ivory beaded satin sheath gown by Christian Lacroix.
Eddie Murphy married his long term partner and the mother of his two children, Nicole Mitchell at a black tie reception for 500 guests. The venue was transformed into a garden paradise with roses, gardenias, orchids and tulips. The couple had asked that after the ceremony, the flowers should be donated to local hospitals and leftovers given to homeless at the surrounding shelters. In lieu of wedding gifts, guests were asked to donate to a charity Eddie Murphy had founded.
