Bridesmaids Roles and Traditions

I will never forget the moment my best friend Linda called to say that her fiance, Brian, asked her to marry him and then she teased me by pausing before she asked me to be her bridesmaids. I frantically wondered what duties this momentous role required, particularly since this is the first time I’ve been asked to be a bridesmaids as my friends are just about starting to get married at this age.

Researching the traditions of bridesmaids, I found some interesting facts. A bridesmaids is typically a close friend or …

Weddings at the Shoreditch House

Earlier this week, I met a hotshot headhunter who during the course of our conversation, revealed that he was throwing his 30th birthday at the Shoreditch House. Im sure he was amused by the sight of my jaw dropping because I’ve been looking into throwing my 30th birthday at the Shoreditch House… if I can afford it in 3 years time! I actually cannot think of a more hip and central location to throw a 30th birthday party.

British comedian David Williams of the infamous sketch show Little Britain married …

Wedding Quotes

Now that wedding season is in full swing (one wedding for me next weekend, one at end of month and another in October) I’ve been searching for wedding cards. I found a beautiful blank card and went on the hunt for the perfect quote to insert. Here are a selection of ones I found which may be useful if you are facing the same dilemma:
A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. ~ Mignon McLaughlin
Love does not consist of gazing at each …

Chelsea Clinton’s Royal American Wedding

The past weekend saw the world media flocking to Rhinebeck, 90 miles from New York City, to what has been billed as the American royal wedding and the wedding of the century. Former First Daughter, Chelsea Clinton married financier Marc Mezvinsky after a year long engagement at the Astor Court. It has been reported that President Obama offered the white house as a wedding venue.

The Clinton family spent a staggering £3.2 million on the wedding, including a £10,000 on a presidential style mobile toilet and a 20 piece band. …

Royal Swedish Wedding

Wedding season is just around the corner - and the Royal Swedish wedding caught my eye. Crown Princess Victoria, heir to the Swedish throne, married her former personal trainer, the gym owner Daniel Westling on 19 June 2010 at Stockholm Cathedral. Over 250,000 people watched the wedding outside with only a select group of 1,000 wedding guests inside. The wedding was considered Sweden’s top event in its social calendar. Coincidently, Victoria shared the same wedding date as her parents, who were married 34 years ago. The 32 year old princess …

Having a Backyard Wedding

Over the weekend, I asked my best friend if she considered a backyard wedding. Already, the backyard wedding is a celebrity trend. Just ask Tori Spelling who wed Charlie Shanian in 2004 at the Beverly Hills estate of her father, TV producer Aaron Spelling… but then again most of us dont have a spare 56,000-foot garden. On a more relatable level, Elton John and David Furnish celebrated their 2005 wedding at John’s Windsor Estate, where guests socialised on two giant tents in his backyard. Liz Taylor married Larry Fortensky in …

Celebrities rock out with their rocks

At some point, I know I have to do a post about celebrity engagement rings. Admit it, you too have seen the celebrity rocks and their even bigger personalities to match. Paris Hilton once said she gets a work out from wearing her engagement ring itself!
I like to think of engagement rings like Mr Big in Sex and City - something sweet to seal the deal. Just in the case of celebrities, they can afford to be bigger and brighter.
Starting at the top, Beyonce was given a 18 …

White-House wedding!

Having blogged about the White House reception last week, I thought I’d share some photos and details of an almost-white-house wedding. On May 10, 2008, Jenna Bush (daughter of George Bush, then President of the US) and Henry Hager exchanged wedding vows at the Priarie Chapel Ranch near Crawford, Texas.

Breaking trading, the first family wedding was not broadcast live. But the White House did share some details and released 11 photos in the days after the wedding. I understand that for such a famous family, they wouldnt have wanted it …

Wedding Bands

Upon the recommendation of a friend of mine, we had my wedding band made at David Lawes in Hatton Garden, the diamond centre in London. I was a bit hesitant to have my wedding ring made in England considering how prices are inflated in this country. However, I didnt want to order it from Dubai again because it may not match the engagement ring exactly. My engagement ring had a prong so I wanted to make sure the wedding band would have a small slit so it would be a …

Bvlgari Wedding Bands for Men

So I’m off to Hatton Garden this afternoon to get a bespoke wedding band that matches my engagement ring. There are so many jewellers at Hatton Garden that I didnt know where to look so I asked a friend of mine who got her engagement ring made there. She gave me the address of David Lawes, who she said is extremely relaxed and professional. When I met him, he said he couldnt be any more easy going because he would be horizontal!
Anyways, a few days ago on my training course …
