Year of Royal Weddings

2011 was the year of THE Royal Wedding of Prince Williams and Kate Middleton but also the year of four other lesser known royals. Here are the top 5 you may have missed and some of the highlights of their wedding:
1. Prince Williams of England and Kate Middleton (April 29, 2011)
30 years after Prince Charles and Princess Diana walked down the aisle. Prince Williams wed Kate Middleton at Westminister Abbey . The bride wore Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen (and has since worn the label for many occassions, raising its …

Bridesmaid’s Speech

So only a week to go for my best friend Linda’s wedding. I’ve been asked to give a speech at the Rehearsal dinner. At first, I squealed with delight and started to dream of the most extravagant and creative way to toast my friend’s wedding. I even spent three nights in a row till 2 am watching youtube videos of bridesmaid’s speeches. My first idea was to do a Dr. Seuss style poem. Scratch that. Then I tried a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Style song. Scratch that as well. I …

Get the Royal Wedding Look

It has been reported that almost a quarter of the ENTIRE world watched the Royal wedding. I imagine Kate Middleton must have been under immense pressure to get the perfect wedding look. As a bride, I knew that there would be some aspects of my wedding that guests would either love or hate.. and that if someone asked me for the details of suppliers I used, I should see that as a compliment
For those that admired what Kate and Wills did right, here are some of the brands …

Life in the UK Test – Been there, Passed that

As a condition of gaining Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK (which you are eligible for after two years of marriage to a British citizen), I have to pass a ‘LIfe in the UK Test’. I heard that it is one of the most ridiculous tests, featuring questions such as what is the exact bill for TV license for one british household in 2005! (Yes, £123.35 or something like that!) Anyways, with the threat of the pass mark set at 75%, I set about studying for it like …

Making your own Wedding Cake

I’m off to a wedding tomorrow (bride and groom chose a lucky Chinese number that happens to fall on monday!) and seeing that it was so sunny and warm today, decided to make some cupcakes. I started to think about all the brides that may make and decorate their own wedding cake.
I think most of the techniques used on a wedding cake can easily apply to cupcakes, all except those utilising the sides of the cake like the string effect (video below) You dont have to watch the entire video …

Using Groupon for Bridal/Hen Do

In today’s credit crunch, god forbid we pay for a full price meal with all the TasteLondon cards and MoneySavingExpert food vouchers going around.
Now even better, I’ve discovered Groupon which has tons of discounts. I’m a bit wary of using their food vouchers (hmm… mainly because I cant get myself to trust restaurants I just dont know and I have my 50% TasteLondon card anyways) but I’ve already bought lots of spa treatments using Group on including treatments at the O spa in Canary Wharf and cooking classes.
The …

Lucky Wedding Numbers

When I looked at my calendar on wednesday, I realised the unique dates 8.9.10 and quickly texted my friend to tease her and say that her boyfriend and her should get married that date. She replied to say that she’s actually engaged and they were debating between having a wedding date in November or December.
So… it made me think what are the lucky numbers can other blushing brides to be and excited grooms to be choose from? My husband and I were so lucky to be able to secure …

Celebrity Wedding Invitations

Ever wondered how celebrities announce their big day? Well here is a collection to inspire you, perhaps even telling you a little bit about the celebrities themselves that you already dont know:
First of all, I adore the simplicity and elegance of former Playboy Kendra Wilkinson and NFL star Hank Baskett’s invitations. The lavender theme gave a hint of their wedding colours, also seen on their bridesmaids:

and this also reminds me of the Kardashian wedding last year, where the passionate colour purple was heavily featured in both the invitation and the …

Wedding Quotes

Now that wedding season is in full swing (one wedding for me next weekend, one at end of month and another in October) I’ve been searching for wedding cards. I found a beautiful blank card and went on the hunt for the perfect quote to insert. Here are a selection of ones I found which may be useful if you are facing the same dilemma:
A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. ~ Mignon McLaughlin
Love does not consist of gazing at each …

How to get a Hotel Upgrade

Rule 1: Never hesitate to ask. I’ve always believed in ‘if you dont ask, you dont get’ just as ‘if you dont dream, you dont achieve.’ BUT not in a greedy-in-your-face-vulgar way please! Even if you are refused, you should still smile and thank the person because they may just find a room for you afterwards. When we went to Paris for our trip, I asked the hotel manager and as soon as she found out that I was Tibetan, she upgraded our room to one with a view of …
