Desert Tables

A  new trend at weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and house warming parties is the display desert tables. Searching for desert tables, google shows up a few businesss of ‘sweet stylists’ … how cool is that for a business title and job!
I dont want to write much and let the pictures speak for themselves…. but when I finally qualify as a solicitor, I’m going to design and make my own desert table for a sweet celebration myself. In fact, I’ve already bought these sweet invitations from Mara Mi to commit myself …

Desert Bar for Wedding

My friend Karin who also suffers from cupcaholic addiction introduced me to her friend Pei Ling who is a lawyer from the Far East (I keep getting confused whether its Singapore or Malaysia). She spent a year in London training to be a Cordon Bleu chef and has now returned back to the law but with amazing culinary and baking skills!
Whilst browsing her facebook page, I chanced to see a desert bar she made for her friend’s wedding. How amazing do these look – and Pei Ling just says this …

Making your own Wedding Cake

I’m off to a wedding tomorrow (bride and groom chose a lucky Chinese number that happens to fall on monday!) and seeing that it was so sunny and warm today, decided to make some cupcakes. I started to think about all the brides that may make and decorate their own wedding cake.
I think most of the techniques used on a wedding cake can easily apply to cupcakes, all except those utilising the sides of the cake like the string effect (video below) You dont have to watch the entire video …

Let them have cake!

You would never think a simple wedding cake would involve so much preparation and planning (believe me you do) So for the OCD and OTT people out there, here are a compilation of questions about your cake you might want to ask your cake maker:

Selection:
What type of cake would you like? A traditional fruit cake, a light sponge cake, a favourite flavour or even cupcakes? You may even have a combination of different flavours with different cakes on each tier. Remember to think about your wedding guest preferences, particularly …

Macaroon Wedding Cake

There have been some disturbing reports that whoopie cakes are the new cupcakes in town. No way! My cupcakeholic friend Karin and I strongly disagree. BUT we did squeal with delight when we saw macaroons at the recent TasteLondon event at Regents Park.
TasteLondon, promoted as ‘the world’s greatest restaurant festival’ was a bit hyped up for my taste (excuse the pun!) The tickets are quite expensive considering you still have to pay around £5 for an appetiser sized portion and it was a dreadful rainy day when we visited …

Alice in Wonderland Themed Wedding

Ever since we had our wedding, I’ve been itching to throw another celebration but cannot seem to find an occasion that would deserve that sort of preparation. So I annoy my husband once in a while and ask him if he’s been planning my 30th birthday celebrations even though its almost 3 years away! I’d like to do something a little crazy but fun with a Alice in Wonderland themed party!

Personalise Favour Tins

A neat little favour idea is to have favour tins filled with your favourite sweets – jelly beans are my favourite! I read that almonds (specifically Jordan almonds) are traditional wedding favours for over 3,000 years in Greek, Mediterranean, French and Italian weddings. The almonds came to signify celebrations as ancient Romans used sweets like almonds for weddings and births. The bittersweet almond taste is said to symbolise life itself. The sugar coating symbolises the hope that life will be blessed with more sweetness than bitterness. Interestingly, the favours were …
