Cupcake making course

As a self confessed cupcake maniac, I had no choice but to give in to my addiction and I signed up for a cupcake making course at Cakes4fun in Putney, London. I’ve been to the course before and enjoyed the experience. This year, on the flower cupcake course, I felt I gained more from the knowledge of the teacher and the techniques taught. Last year, the fondant icing technique was not very useful and practical to replicate at home whereas this weekend’s course in flower cupcakes are so much more …

Inspiration from the White House

Last month Barack Obama welcomed the Indian prime minister on the first state reception of his presidency. But, as a wedding enthusiast, my eyes were on the lovely Michelle Obama: what she would wear, and the reception she would throw…. and she did not disappoint!
Michelle Obama wore a strapless, gold and cream-coloured sheath dress with an overlay of silver and matching shawl that was designed by Indian designer Naeem Khan and made in India. It resembled the churidhar (or shawl) or the Indian salwar-keemeez! Michelle could have even looked like …

Cupcakes at my Wedding!

Yes, after months of talking about cupcakes at my wedding, my bridesmaid and I made them at 2 am the night before the wedding. Most brides have a bridezilla moment and mine was a huge fight I had with my fiance the night before the wedding. He went out to buy some M&S cupcakes (which actually are really good value and look great) so that I wouldnt have to make any cupcakes of my own. But I insisted on making them and I thought that it was quite insulting to …

Cupcake stands

I spent the whole of friday trying to make cupcakes with my good friend. We tried two different recipes, the tried and tested one and the newer one from the cupcake course. We realise that cupcakes rise if you use butter and if you use the fan assisted option of your oven. So finally on our fourth attempt, we made perfectly flat cupcakes, only to burn them because I wasnt looking! DOH.
Anyways, I was online today looking at cupcake stands. I found three varieties and they seem very cheap …

Cupcake Vendors

This past weekend, I was at the Kensington Roof Gardens where they had a vendor fair. With free drinks and a gift bag, how could I resist? I even took my photographer so he could check out the venue before our wedding. I took some photos of two cupcake stands. Considering that there were only about 10-15 vendors at the event, and two of them were cupcake makers has really convinced me that there is a growing market for wedding cupcakes. I overheard one of the ladies say that the …

Corkage Fee Calculations

We’ve been doing calculations over corkage fees for several hours now. Some have a very high fee to discourage couples from buying cheap alcohol from other vendors and others have minimum fees to pay for the dishwasher and waiter services. I never knew corkage fees could be one of the budget traps. I’ve also been reading other forums on corkage fee and one couple recounted how their venue said it was £2,000 but as soon as they said they could not afford the venue, the corkage fee was brought down …

Cupcake course

As you may or may not have realised, Im quite the cupcake fanatic and my friends even think my cupcake obsession is quite funny (and they enjoy being the recipients of all my cupcake experiments even more). So I decided to enroll in a proper cupcake making course. I signed up for the Cakes4fun cupcake course in Putney. They have a range of classes – from decorating cakes to all sorts of cupcake decorations. The wedding cupcake course costs £99 and the normal cupcake course costs £75. By now, Im …

Cupcake Wreaths

I just found this creative cupcake creation on another blog. I dont think I’ll make a wreath like this because it looks a bit like those Halloween/Christmas wreaths you put on your door…but if this is your “thang” as my cousin says…
Alternatively, I love the idea of making flowers from a cupcake – this could be an interesting way to dress up your little cupcakes – maybe even using different coloured cupcake cases?

and up close…

1. Begin by pinning the end of your ribbon to the backside of your …
