Tiffany Blue and Red Weddings

Now that my wedding is over, I know I’ve neglected this blog a little. But recently, my best friend Linda got engaged in the US and I now have the energy and enthusiasm to do some wedding planning. I bombarded her with a million questions when she first broke the news - When do you plan to get married? Where? Do you know what type of ceremony you want to do? She laughed at my over-enthusiasm. She hasnt figured out all the decisions yet. She may do a legal ceremony …

White-House wedding!

Having blogged about the White House reception last week, I thought I’d share some photos and details of an almost-white-house wedding. On May 10, 2008, Jenna Bush (daughter of George Bush, then President of the US) and Henry Hager exchanged wedding vows at the Priarie Chapel Ranch near Crawford, Texas.

Breaking trading, the first family wedding was not broadcast live. But the White House did share some details and released 11 photos in the days after the wedding. I understand that for such a famous family, they wouldnt have wanted it …

Inspiration from the White House

Last month Barack Obama welcomed the Indian prime minister on the first state reception of his presidency. But, as a wedding enthusiast, my eyes were on the lovely Michelle Obama: what she would wear, and the reception she would throw…. and she did not disappoint!
Michelle Obama wore a strapless, gold and cream-coloured sheath dress with an overlay of silver and matching shawl that was designed by Indian designer Naeem Khan and made in India. It resembled the churidhar (or shawl) or the Indian salwar-keemeez! Michelle could have even looked like …

Bridesmaids Dresses

I pondered over the bridesmaids’ dresses for many months. There are so many styles and not all suit all bridesmaids. So my bridesmaid Sobie suggested that we wear Tibetan dresses. I asked my mother to buy me some green ones and when I saw them, I fell in love. I had also considered Indian clothes to reflect my Indian background but I thought it would be too stressful trying to put the saris on the day of the wedding.
So here are my gorgeous bridesmaids. The funniest thing is my …

Wedding Bands

Upon the recommendation of a friend of mine, we had my wedding band made at David Lawes in Hatton Garden, the diamond centre in London. I was a bit hesitant to have my wedding ring made in England considering how prices are inflated in this country. However, I didnt want to order it from Dubai again because it may not match the engagement ring exactly. My engagement ring had a prong so I wanted to make sure the wedding band would have a small slit so it would be a …

Cupcakes at my Wedding!

Yes, after months of talking about cupcakes at my wedding, my bridesmaid and I made them at 2 am the night before the wedding. Most brides have a bridezilla moment and mine was a huge fight I had with my fiance the night before the wedding. He went out to buy some M&S cupcakes (which actually are really good value and look great) so that I wouldnt have to make any cupcakes of my own. But I insisted on making them and I thought that it was quite insulting to …

Flowers at the Wedding

I had three main flowers at the wedding: my bridal bonquet, the flower arrangements on the table, and the bridesmaids bonquet. I decided to get the bridal bonquet made professionally because I’ve heard it is the most important flower arrangement. I wanted to save costs on the rest of the flower arrangements because I heard that flowers can be misleadingly expensive. The average American bride spends $1600 on flowers alone!
Anyways, back to the bridal bonquet, I went down to Chez Michelle (sounds like a restaurant doesnt it?) at Borough Market. …

Place cards & Table Names

So some more photos of our place cards:

These were actually just from Tescos store, in sets of 20. They are in their dinner party range. I lost a few of them and had to make a mad dash to the super market the night before the wedding. Thank god for Tesco’s 24 hour shopping and a very kind friend who drove my bridesmaid and me there.
The table name cards, the Peony table:

The whole table look:

Table Decor

So finally I have some photos of my tables at my recent wedding. All the wedding details came together like a dream, in fact, it came together even better than I could have ever dreamt of. I know that Im biased but Im so pleased with how all the table runners, flowers, and other table decorations fit.
So I have my table runners that I made myself in different shades of green:

and close up…

I chose these olive green sashes to go with our green theme. Against a white chair cover, …

Money/Card Boxes

Last week, I was drooling over the photos of money/card boxes from the US. But I almost fell off my chair when I realised that they were going for upwards of $120 !!!!!!!!
I realise this is an important item that brides forget and I certainly dont get my cards stolen at the wedding reception. At our engagement party, I lost track of the presents and cards that I am sure some may have even dropped on the way.

So I decided to make the boxes myself. I enlisted the help …
